OVERVIEWThe Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet was written by William Shakespeare, perhaps the most famous writer in history. It is a story of two teenagers who fall in love at first sight, not knowing that they are from families that hate one another (the Capulets and Montagues). They secretly marry the day after they meet, and when Romeo is banished to another town in Italy, Juliet plans an elaborate fake death in order to go and be with him. The plan doesn't quite work out, however, and the play ends with both Romeo and Juliet's deaths. On the bright side, when their feuding families discover the truth, their fighting comes to and end after centuries.
